ERFN is comprised mainly of Dene people whose traditional lands extend northwest from the Churchill River. Most English River members live in the Patuanak and La Plonge area.
English River First Nation members share a vision of self-determination and self-sufficiency. The mining, construction, forestry, tourism, and financial services industries have been targeted for increased economic development and employment programs in the future.
In 1991, English River created Des Nedhe Development Inc. whose mission is to engage in economic development activities which will create sustainable employment and business opportunities for English River people. The acquisition of Tron Power Inc. and Trikon North as well as the creation of Canadian Shield Insurance and Financial Services LP in 1997 are several of the ways DNDI is meeting the challenge.
